Antigenic shift and drift of influenza virus.

One way flu infections change is classified "antigenic float." These are little changes (or transformations) in the qualities of flu infections that can prompt changes in the surface proteins of the infection: HA (hemagglutinin) and NA (neuraminidase). A minor change to a seasonal infection is known as antigenic float. Both flu A and B infections go through antigenic float. These transformations in the infection's qualities can prompt changes in its surface proteins Hemagglutinin (HA) and Neuraminidase (NA).
