The word poultry derived from the French word poule, themselves derived from the Latin word pullus that means small animal. The training of poultry took place various thousand years ago. This might have initially been as a result of people incubating and breeding young birds from eggs taken from the wild, but after related keeping the birds permanently in captivity.
