Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSF) Open Access Articles

Oral submucous pathology (OSF) may be a chronic disease that causes scars, tissue pathology, and lesions of metastatic tumours. It also happens inside the layer of the buccal tissue. Pathological characteristics include chronic inflammation, extreme albuminoid deposition in the connecting tissues below the animal tissue of the oral membrane, native inflammation within the propria plate or deep connective tissue, and chronic muscle changes. OSF patients report a strong feeling of burning inside the mouth when eating spicy food. Alternative signs of OSF include xerostomia, discomfort, loss of taste, poor consistency of the tongue, truisms, dysphasia and tone variability. This disease contributes significantly to mortality because of its high rate of malignant transformation (1.5–15 per cent).
