Mastitis is the swelling of the mammary gland and udder material, and is a major endemic sickness of dairy cattle. It usually transpires as an immune comeback to bacterial assault of the teat canal by variety of bacterial causes present on the farmstead, and can also happen as a result of biological, mechanical, or current injury to the cow's udder. Milk-secreting muscles and numerous ducts throughout the udder can be injured by bacterial toxins, and on occasion permanent harm to the udder occurs. Severe acute cases can be incurable, but even in cows that advance there may be consequences for the rest of the lactation and succeeding lactations. The illness is in most salutations a very complex disease, affected by a variety of factors: it can be present in a herd sub clinically, where few, if any, symptoms are present in most cows.
