Water Chlorination

Water chlorination is that the process of adding chlorine or chlorine compounds like hypochlorite to water. This method is employed to kill certain bacteria and other microbes in water as chlorine is very toxic. especially, chlorination is employed to stop the spread of waterborne diseases like cholera, dysentery, and typhoid.

The technique of purification of beverage by use of compressed liquefied chlorine gas was developed by a British officer within the Indian Medical Service, Vincent B. Nesfield, in 1903. consistent with his own account, "It occurred to me that chlorine gas could be found satisfactory”. if suitable means might be found for using it. subsequent important question was the way to render the gas portable. This could be accomplished in two ways: By liquefying it, and storing it in lead-lined iron vessels, having a jet with a really fine capillary canal, and fitted with a faucet or a screw cap.
