Toxicant

A toxicant is any toxic substance. Toxicants are often poisonous and that they could also be man-made or present. In contrast, a toxin may be a poison produced naturally by an organism (e.g. plant, animal, insect). The different sorts of toxicants are often found within the air, soil, water, or food.

E-cigarette aerosol also contains toxicants. The emissions of a heat not burn tobacco product which contains toxicants. Most heavy metals are toxicants. Diesel exhaust contains toxicants. Pesticides, benzene, and asbestos-like fibers like carbon nanotubes are toxicants. Possible developed toxicants include phenols, sunscreens, phthalates, pesticides, halogenated flame retardants and dietary polyphenols. In contrast, a toxin may be a poison produced naturally by an organism. "A toxin may be a toxicant that's produced by a living organism and isn't used as a synonym for toxicant—all toxins are toxicants, but not all toxicants are toxins.
