Molecular Nutrition
Food items contain frequent bioactive components or their precursors, including the sources of the energy and the structure block of life, such as amino acids. These bioactive mechanisms deliver crucial signs and have the important functions in the growth, health, development and durability of the consumer. In the unit for Molecular Nutrition the research is focused on the identification, isolation and classification of such bioactive food components in physiological systems. The section consists of 5 research groups located in 2 different laboratory environments. Protein Chemistry Laboratory and Laboratory of Cellular Ageing. These groups work on the functional and structural characterization and misuse of milk components and their effects on many physiological conditions such as effects on the, cholesterol metabolism, immune system, cancer, diabetes and other lifestyle diseases.
