Depressive Disorders Review Journals Scientific Journals

Still exact cause is to be known but mostly it involves heredity and changes in neurotransmitter levels, altered neuroendocrine function, and psychosocial factors. Diagnosis is based on history of the treatment. Treatment mainly consists of drugs, psychotherapeutics, and both and sometimes electroconvulsive therapy or rapid transcranial magnetic stimulation. Depressive disorders are identified by severe sadness enough and persistent to interfere with mechanism of actions and often by decreased interest and pleasure in activities. Other theories focus on changes in neurotransmitter levels, including abnormal regulation of cholinergic, catecholaminergic (noradrenergic or dopaminergic), glutamatergic, and serotonergic (5-hydroxytryptamine) neurotransmission. Neuroendocrine dysregulation may be a factor, with particular emphasis on 3 axes: hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal, hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid, and growth hormone.
