Cancer Genes Open Access Articles

Cancer could be a hereditary disease caused by accumulation of DNA mutations and epigenetic alterations resulting in unrestrained cell proliferation and neoplasm formation. The goal of oncogenomics is to spot new oncogenes or neoplasm suppressor genes which will give new insights into cancer diagnosis, predicting clinical outcome of cancers and new targets for cancer therapies. The success of targeted cancer therapies like Gleevec, Herceptin and Avastin raised the hope for oncogenomics to elucidate new targets for cancer treatment. Besides understanding the underlying genetic mechanisms that initiate or drive cancer progression, oncogenomics targets personalised cancer treatment.
