Plasmodium Malariae

Plasmodium malariae is a malaria parasite that causes a disease it has been known since the Greek and Roman civilizations over 2,000 years ago. Quartan, semiterti and tertianand patterns of the fever in patients were clear by the early Greeks. After the discovery by Alphonse Laveran in 1880 ( that been causative agent for the malaria was a parasite, detailed studies on these organisms commenced. The early full work of Golgi in 1886 demonstrated in some patients there was a relationship between the 72-hour life cycle of growth of the parasites and a similar periodicity of the paroxysm (chill and fever design in the patient), while in other patients there were 48-hour cycles of development. He came to the conclusion that there must be more than one species of malaria parasite responsible for these different patterns of cyclical infection.
