Lingual Tonsils Open Access Articles
The lingual tonsils are round in shape of lymphoid tissue posterior region of the throat. They’re found at the bottom of the tongue with the bottom of the epiglottis laying posteriorly and therefore the circumvallate papillae anteriorly. It enlarges progressively till seven years aged then shrink. Tract infections are guarded by tonsils. The foremost common explanation for lingual tonsillar enlargement is compensatory enlargement following tonsillectomy. Other potential causes include lymphoma, chronic infection and HIV. Irritation like from smoking and gastro‐oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) also can cause lingual tonsil hypertrophy. Immunosuppressant drugs, as was the case during this patient, also are known to cause enlarged lingual tonsils.
