Cereal Scholarly Open Access Journals

Cereals provide a fair amount of vitamins, minerals and other dietary fibers. They are being used in making breads, tortillas, oats and other fiber rich eating products. Their grasses are being used as animal fodder and raising livestock. Different cereals are cultivated in different regions of world according to their temperature, soil and water requirements. Cereals are identified according to their genus. They are being used for different purposes also, as using their by-products in different industries as these days in biofuel processing industries also.  Each cereal product is listed after the cereal from which it is derived.. A cereal is a grass a member of monocot family poaceae. Which is cultivated for the edible components of its grain, which comprises of the endosperm, germ and bran. Cereal grains are grown in greater quantities and provide more food energy worldwide than any other type of crop, hence they are known as staple crops.

Cereals are also used in different industries as in production of glucose, adhesives, oils, alcohol and food processing industries also. corn (maize), wheat, barley, rice, oats, rye, are low in saturated fat, but is a source of polyunsaturated fats, including omega-3 linoleic acid and an excellent source of carbohydrates.  Oats are a nutritious cereal choice.  Wheat is one of the most old and domesticated grains and rice being the second most used and staple crops in major Asian countries. Their grasses are being used as animal fodder and raising livestock. These days gluten free packaged oats and cereals are also being use and have gained a great popularity in a last few years. Cereals are now been fortified with vitamins and other minerals and hence enhancing their nutritional values.
