BIOACTIVE GLASSES

Bioactive glasses are a gaggle of surface reactive glass-ceramic biomaterials and include the first bioactive glass, Bioglass. The bioactivity of those glasses has led them to  investigate extensively to be used as implant device to repair and replace diseased or damaged bones.
There is tentative evidence that bioactive glass can also be useful in os longum infections. Support from randomized controlled trials, however, remains not available as of 2015.
Bioglass (BG) has been widely accepted to be ready to enhance hard tissue repair and regeneration. Recently, increasing number of studies have reported that BG also possesses the power to stimulate soft tissue regeneration, and most of those studies focused on the consequences of BG on skin repair and regenerationduring this chapter, classification and properties of BG and different methods for preparing BG are briefly introduced. Then, studies on the consequences of various sorts of BG, including silicate-based BG, phosphate-based BG, and borate-based BG, on skin repair and regeneration are thoroughly reviewed. Finally, three typical functional ion-doped BGs, that is, Ag doped, Cu doped, and Zn doped BG, and their potential application for skin repair and regeneration are introduced.
