Pulmonary Developmental Biology

At the earlier stage of lung development, there is an accompanying of blood circulation. In an adult lung the pulmonary arteries are closely associated with the airways. In fetal development, the airways act as a template for pulmonary blood vessel which has developed in the vessels form by vasculogenesis around the branching airways. In later lung development consists of alveoli multiply in which new capillaries form by angiogenesis. As blood vessels increases in size, they develop as a muscle wall that is relatively thick during fetal life and shows a rapid reduction after birth. The control over the development by the growth factors and physiological changes immediately after birth is described in this review. The pulmonary vascular development leads to pulmonary arterial hypertension and strategies for treatment which are also discussed.
