ENVIRONMENTAL FORENSICS AND CHEMICAL FINGER PRINTING JOURNALS
Environmental forensics and chemical finger printing involves all aspects of site characterization and it requires an accurate conceptual site model. In most cases involving petroleum or petrochemicals we usually start with a basic GC/FID chromatogram as a screening tool for characterization. From there, an investigation may involve chemical ratios, GC/MS precision identification and quantification, or stable isotope analysis. like any fingerprinting there must be a comparison fingerprint or suite of chemicals to guage against. we'll discuss some sources of data for obtaining these comparisons and identify some key compounds and ratios which will guide the trouble . Petroleum sources, formulation, refining, alterations and degradations each play a key role in selecting a reliable forensic strategy.
Environmental Forensics. Environmental forensics incudes scientific evaluation of chemical, physical and historical information so as to develop defensible legal conclusions regarding the source and age of a contaminant which could be released into the environment.
. A plethora of empirically effective fingerprint revelation methods are developed but the chemistry is usually incompletely understood. this text briefly describes the chemical rationale of most fingerprint visualization techniques practiced today. This material is suitable for a forensic chemistry course or for an introductory chemistry course to introduce the relevance of chemistry in enforcement .
