COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY JOURNAL

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) aims to enhance behaviors, improving emotional regulationand therefore the development of private coping strategies that focus on solving current problems. Originally, it had been designed to treat depression, but its uses are expanded to incorporate treatment of variety of psychological state conditions, including anxiety. CBT includes variety of cognitive or behavior psychotherapies that treat defined psychopathologies using evidence-based techniques and methods .
CBT is predicated on the mixture of the essential principles from behavioral and psychology it's different from historical approaches to psychotherapy, like the psychoanalytic approach where the therapist looks for the unconscious meaning behind the behaviors then formulates a diagnosis. Instead, CBT may be a "problem-focused" and "action-oriented" sort of therapy, meaning it's wont to treat specific problems associated with a diagnosed mental disturbance . The therapist's role is to help the client find and practicing effective strategies to deal with the identified goals and reduce symptoms of the disorder. CBT is predicated on the assumption that thought distortions and maladaptive behaviors play a task within the development and maintenance of psychological disorders, which symptoms and associated distress are often reduced by teaching new information-processing skills and coping mechanisms.
When compared to psychoactive medications, review studies have found CBT alone to be as effective for treating less severe sorts of depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), tics, drug abuse , eating disorders and borderline mental disorder . Some research suggests that CBT is best when combined with medication for treating mental disorders like Major clinical depression .
