Cervical Dislocation Online Journals

Cervical dislocation is a common form of euthanasia of the animals. It specifies a technique that is used in small animal physical euthanasia along the pressure being applied through the neck and dislocating the spinal column from the skull or brain. The aim is to quickly detach the spinal cord from the brain, thus providing a fast and painless death to the animal; despite research on this method, it has shown that it does not constantly concentrate the brain and may not cause instantaneous insensitivity. At the base of the skull, firm pressure is applied, as is a sharp pinching and twisting of the thumb and forefinger. The tail is pulled backwards, at the same time. This severs the spinal cord at the base of the brain or inside the region of the cervical spine (top third of the neck).
