Cancer In Children

Childhood cancer is not a single disease type, but an umbrella group of diseases that include blood cancers (leukemia and lymphoma), brain tumors and other solid tumors (of the organs, bones or soft tissues). Whereas childhood cancer is possibly life-threatening and usually requires intensive treatment, the most of the pediatric cancers are treatable. Diagnosis and treatment for children cancers are separate than for adult cancers. The major differences are the survival rate and the main cause of the cancer. The survival rate for childhood cancer is about 80 percent, while in adult cancers; the survival rate is 60 percent. This difference is thought to be because childhood cancer is more responsive to therapy, a child can tolerate more aggressive therapy and the prognosis is better.
