A Beam balance is a device which is used to define weight or mass. It exists in the form of mass scales, weight scales, mass balances and weight balances.The traditional scale consists of two plates which are suspended at equal distances from a fulcrum. One plate holds an object of unknown mass while on the other plate in which masses have been added until equal length have been achieved this happens when the masses on the two plates are equal. The perfect scale rests at neutral. A spring scale will make use of a spring to determine mass. Suspending a certain mass which extends the spring by a certain amount depending on the spring's stiffness .The heavier the object, the more the spring stretches, as described in Hooke's law
