25. Potato
The potato is a root vegetable which is native of America. A thickener tube of the plant Solanum and the plant itself is a perennial among the family Solanaceae. Wild potato species are originated from Peru, which can be found throughout the America from United States to southern Chile. The potato was originally believed that it has been domesticated by indigenous people of America in multiple locations, but later genetic testing among the wide variety of cultivars and wild species traced a single origin for potatoes. In the Andes region of South America, where the species are indigenous, among them some are close relatives of the potato are cultivated. The importance of the potato is that it can be used as a food source and culinary ingredient varies by region and it is still changing.
