Polymethylpentene
Polymethylpentene melts approximately at 235 °C. It has very low density (0.84 g/cm3) and is transperent. It has low moisture absorption. It has exceptional acoustical and electrical properties. Polymethylpenten properties are reasonably similar to those of other polyolefins, although it is more brittle and more gas permeable. The polymer also has a high thermal stability and chemical resistance. It has excellent dielectric characteristics. The crystalline phase has a lower density than the amorphous phase. It shows optical properties with wavelength between visible light and 100~GHz.Polymethylpentene is mostly used in films and coating for gas packaging. As it is an excellent electrical insulator, it is used in electrical components; such as LED’s.
