Organizations transform away from formalized command and control management performance that resided in human resource functions, managers are increasingly called upon, responsible to coach and develop their employees. This IS seeks to examine the activities of goal-setting and performance development to understand how managers can effectively coach and develop employees through these actions. To do so requires a new set of skills and behaviors that leverage the role of a manager as a coach. These new skills are built upon a manager’s ability to develop a growth mindset, build expertise, lend their time, effectively listen, and provide frequent feedback. Senior managers, such as members of a board of directors and a chief executive officer a president of an organization.
