In modern politics, law and order, also called robust on crime and also the War on Crime, is demands for a strict criminal justice system, particularly in relation to violent and property crime, through stricter criminal penalties. These penalties could include longer terms of imprisonment, necessary sentencing, three-strikes laws, and in some countries, capital punishment.

Supporters of "law and order", usually from the right-wing, argue that incarceration is that the most effective means that of crime prevention. Opponents, usually left-wing, argue that a system of harsh criminal punishment is ultimately ineffective as a result of it doesn't address underlying or general causes of crime.
