Emotional Maturity In Children

Children’s emotional development often follows specific milestones. These can provide helpful benchmarks for healthy development:

At four months, infants will smile socially.At six months, infants will respond to emotions.At one to two years, children will enjoy playing with familiar people.At four or five years, children will want to please their friends .Children who are highly emotionally mature:

Create positive social connections by coping with their own and other people’s emotions Have higher rates of self-esteem, sociability and happiness.Have lower rates of aggressionAs children begin to evaluate themselves, they compare themselves to others and start to gauge if their behaviour is appropriate. Gradually, they become more effective at communicating and understanding others’ thoughts and feelings.
