ecology

Ecology may be a branch of biology concerning interactions among organisms and their biophysical environment, which incorporates both biotic and abiotic components. Topics of interest include the biodiversity, biomass, distribution, and populations of organisms, also as competition and cooperation within and between species. Ecosystems are dynamically interacting systems of organisms, the communities they create up, and therefore the non-living components of their environment. Ecosystem processes, like primary pedogenesis, production, nutrient cycling, niche construction, which regulate the flux of matter and energy through an environment. These processes are restrained by organisms with specific life history traits.

Ecology isn't synonymous with environmentalism, explanation, or ecology . It overlaps with the closely related sciences of evolutionary biology, genetics, and ethology. a crucial focus for ecologists is to enhance the understanding of how biodiversity affects ecological function. Ecologists seek to explain:

• Life processes, interactions, and adaptations

• The movement of energy and materials through living communities

• The successional development of ecosystems

• The abundance and distribution of organisms and biodiversity within the context of the environment.
