Early Blight

Alternaria solani is a fungal pathogen which produces a disease called early blight in tomato and potato plants. The pathogen produces distinctive patterned "bullseye" leaf spots, and on tomatoes may also cause stem lesions and fruit rot and on potato tuber blight. Despite the name "early," foliar symptoms typically occur on older leaves. If unchecked, early blight may cause severe yield reductions. Primary control measures for this disease include avoiding long wetness periods on leaf surfaces and applying fungicides. The area under Tomato ( Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) cultivates the increase because of the high nutritional value of its fleshy fruits. It occupies number one position in its contribution to human diet by nutrients.
