Coccidioidomycosis

Coccidioidomycosis is infection, usually affects the lungs, and the causative agent is the fungus Coccidioides immitis. The infection is caused by inhalation of the spores of the fungus. Coccidioidomycosis is also called as Valley fever, is an infection caused by the fungus Coccidioides. People can get coccidioidomycosis by inhaling the microscopic fungal spores from the air, although most of the people who inhale the spores don’t get sick. Usually, people that get sick with coccidioidomycosis will recover on their own within weeks to months, but some people will need antifungal medication. Certain groups of people are at higher risk for becoming severely ill. It’s difficult to stop exposure to Coccidioides in areas where it’s common within the environment, but people that are at higher risk for severe coccidioidomycosis should try.
