Beckers Nevus Clinical Quality Systems

A Becker nevus (Becker melanosis) is an acquired, benign, melanocytic epidermal proliferation of adolescence. It typically presents as an outsized , hyperpigmented patch with increased hair growth on the upper trunk in men. This lesion isn't uncommon and is found altogether ethnicities. Lesions are usually present before puberty but often have increased coarse hair growth and a rather raised texture during adolescence thanks to androgen stimulation. Rarely, there are often associated hypoplasia of the underlying tissues (eg, breast hypoplasia, pectoralis hypoplasia, or limb hypoplasia). Most Becker nevi haven't any associated abnormalities.

Treatment is merely required in rare cases for severe cosmetic or psychosocial reasons. Other rare associated findings include acne, keratosis nigricans , rachischisis , scoliosis, pectus carinatum, accessory scrotum, lipoatrophy, and congenital adrenal hyperplasia. a couple of cases of melanoma in association with a Becker nevus are reported.

It is sometimes present from birth. Pigmentation (darkening of skin color) could also be subtle initially , but the nevus often darkens after puberty and expands. The resulting birthmark is typically large, brown, and on one side of the body. The nevus may grow more hair than the encompassing skin.
