Aquatic biodiversity describes the diversity of species and ecosystems found in and around aquatic habitats such as lakes, rivers and oceans. Most important threats to freshwater fishes and other aquatic biodiversity include: habitat modification, fragmentation, and destruction; invasive species; overfishing; environmental pollution; forestry practice; and climate change.
