Introduction

The kidneys are essential organs that play a vital role in maintaining our body's homeostasis. They are responsible for filtering out toxins, excess fluids, and waste products from the blood and regulating electrolyte balance. However, certain dietary factors can significantly impact kidney disease progression and impair kidney function. One of the most critical dietary factors affecting kidney health is protein intake. Protein is essential for building and repairing tissues, but excess protein intake can lead to increased workload on the kidneys, leading to kidney damage and decline in kidney function. For individuals with kidney disease, limiting protein intake can help slow down the progression of the disease and prevent further damage to the kidneys. A low protein diet can also help reduce the risk of proteinuria, a condition where excess protein is excreted in the urine, which can further damage the kidneys [1].

Another critical dietary factor affecting kidney health is sodium intake. Sodium is an essential mineral that plays a vital role in regulating blood pressure and maintaining fluid balance. However, excessive sodium intake can lead to increased blood pressure, which can put a strain on the kidneys and lead to kidney damage. For individuals with kidney disease, limiting sodium intake is crucial in managing blood pressure and preventing further damage to the kidneys.
