Vortex Shedding Research Articles

Dynamic wind-induced oscillate in tall buildings are the effect of turbulent winds interacting with the structure at its natural frequencies. In specific vortex shedding resonant activity typically occurs within rather special wind speed ranges, and it is influenced by the architectural firm of the tall structure itself. In this phenomenon, alternating vortexes are shed on the downstream sides of tall structure leading to net fluctuating forces exciting the structure in a direction that is perpendicular to the one of the wind. When these forces occur at frequencies close to that of the structure, they may be importantly amplified, particularly if the inherent damping of the structure is low. Compared to irregular buildings, monolithic prismatic structure with consistent elevations are likely to exhibit powerful wind-induced oscillations due to vortex shedding.
