Tercontinental Faulting

Analysis of the geological positions of the largest oil and gas basins, performed on the basis of research data provided in the "Russian Geological Atlas" and other publications, allowed the marking of the Ural-African oil and gas belt. This largest hydrocarbon accumulation on the Earth belt is linked to the near-meridional band of a giant long-existing intercontinental fault (drifting) region pre-existing since Riphean in the central part of Eurasia and elongated with smooth rejuvenation across Paleozoic and Mesozoic into the South Caspian, Persian and African platforms.Fault, in geology, a planar or slightly curved fracture in the rocks of the Earth's crust, where compressive or tensional forces cause the rocks to displace equally on the opposite sides.
