Sulfur Emission

Sulfur dioxide belongs to the family of sulfur oxide gases; these are formed when the fuel containing sulfur (mainly oil and coal) is burned for electricity generation or during metal smelting and other industrial processes. Approximately 76% of the annual global atmosphere is sulphur emission is anthroogenic carbon combustion (fossil fuels and biomass), 15% through biological sulfur cycle and about 9% is emitted by volcanic activity. When these sulfur gases combines with water and air it forms sulfuric acid, the main component of acid rain. Deforestation can be caused by acid rain in addition to acidifying waterways to the detriment of aquatic life.
