Preterm Labour
Preterm birth, rate is high compared to that of most other European countries it has remained stable over the last 10 years,in pregnancy and the rising prevalence of diabetes mellitus . In the USA, the preterm delivery rate is 12–13%; in Europe and other developed countries, reported rates are generally 5–9%.1, 2 The preterm birth rate has risen in most industrialised countries, with the USA rate increasing from 9·5% in 1981 to 12·7% in 2005 (figure 1),2 despite advancing knowledge of risk factors and mechanisms related to preterm labour, Premature babies need to be cared for in special units in the hospital. Babies may have to stay in the hospital for a few weeks to a few months until they are strong enough to go home with their families. Some premature babies are too small, too immature, or too sick to survive.
