Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease disabling communication between the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system) by attacking the protective sheath (myelin) that covers the nerve fibers which allows electrical impulses to transmit rapidly and effectively along the nerve cells. Immunosuppressant and physiotherapy can help with symptoms and slow disease progression. Treatment can help, but this can't be cured.
