Hereditary Cancer

A hereditary cancer syndrome is a genetic predisposition to definite types of cancer, frequently with onset at an early age, caused by inherited pathogenic variants in one or several genes. Majority hereditary cancer syndromes show autosomal dominant inheritance. The very regular hereditary cancer syndromes related to women’s cancer contain hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome, Lynch syndrome, Li–Fraumeni syndrome, Cowden syndrome, Peutz–Jeghers syndrome, and hereditary diffuse gastric cancer. A hereditary cancer risk assessment is the key to determining patients and families who might be at increased risk of developing particular categories of cancer. Assessments must be performed by obstetrician like gynecologists or other obstetric as gynecologic care providers and they have to be updated constantly. An assessment contains information on personal and family history, containing pathology, imaging reports and also evaluation of other medical risk factors for cancer.
