Diabetes Insipidus New Open Access

Diabetes insipidus is a heterogeneous condition characterized by polyuria and polydipsia caused either due to a lack of secretion of vasopressin from the posterior pituitary, its physiological suppression following excessive water intake, kidney resistance to its action, its enlarged degradation. Diabetes insipidus is a rare condition, with a reported prevalence of impaired water conservation in diabetes insipidus leads to hypernatremia without apparent volume deficits. The underlying abnormality is decreased action of vasopressin on the kidneys, either due to a low level of the hormone or refractoriness of the kidneys to a normal level of hormone. Conversely, in the absence of vasopressin, the kidney reabsorbs comparatively little water, growing urinary volume and blood osmolarity, leading to increased thirst to compensate.
