Cell Metabolism Scholarly Peer-review Journal
Cellular metabolism is that the set of chemical reactions that occur in living organisms so as to take care of life. Cellular metabolism involves complex sequences of controlled biochemical reactions, better referred to as metabolic pathways. These processes allow organisms to grow and reproduce, maintain their structures, and respond to environmental changes.
Cell metabolism provides a mirrored image of the health status of the cell. The mitochondrion is the main powerhouse of the cell in which bioenergetic processes occur by the uptake of fuel sources such as glucose and fatty acids and converts them into energy in a series of enzymatic reactions.
Cellular metabolism has two distinct divisions: catabolism and anabolism. Anabolism is a constructive metabolism during which a cell uses energy to construct molecules like nucleic acids and enzymes and perform other essential life functions. Anabolism involves three basic stages: firstly, the assembly of precursors like amino acids, monosaccharides, isoprenoids and nucleotides; secondly, their activation into reactive forms; and thirdly, the assembly of these precursors into complex molecules.
