Calcium Phosphates Open Access Journals

Calcium phosphates occur abundantly in nature with different forms includes mainly in materials and minerals unit containing calcium ions (Ca2+) together with inorganic phosphate anions and also oxide and hydroxide, as well as they, are white solids of nutritious quantity. Calcium phosphate-based bone graft substitutes mostly tricalcium phosphate are bioceramics that show the greatest similarity to the minerals found in bone. This calcium phosphate gives excellent biocompatibility, biodegradability, and osteoconductivity. This is based on their capacity to form molecular interaction with the surrounding tissues which results in the formation of an apatite layer on its surface. Calcium phosphate-based bone graft substitutes degrade relatively slow compared to calcium sulfates.
