Determination of the nurses opinions on open and closed suctioning system, effect of closed suctioning system training on knowledge and opinions.

Aspiration is one of the invasive methods that are most commonly used in the care of patients requiring artificial airway support. Many complications may develop when this practice is not applied by a proper method. Therefore aspiration should be performed very carefully and gently. Today, aspiration is performed by two different methods including open and closed suctioning systems. In open suctioning system, patients who are on mechanical ventilation are disconnected from the ventilator during aspiration; and if the patient is not on mechanical ventilation, aspiration is performed by a disposable sterile catheter which is placed on the end of vacuum system directly.
