Vortex-Structures

Vortices in fluid problems is a region in a fluid in which the flow revolves around an axis line, which may be straight or curved include airplane wake vortices, vorticity evolution in free-shear flows, together with axisymmetric flows with swirl, as well as thermal conductivities in fluid layers. Vortices are a major component of turbulent flow. The concept of circulation as well as the distribution of velocity, vorticity is used to characterize vortices. In most vortices, the fluid flow velocity is greatest to its axis and decreases in inverse proportion to the distance from the axis. Once formed, vortices can stretch, move, twist and interact in complex ways. A moving vortex carries some angular and linear momentum, energy, and mass with it.
