Prescription Drugs

Prescription drugs that influence the brain, including opioid pain relievers, stimulants and depressants, may induce addictive physical dependency. Medications affecting the brain may alter the way it works-especially when administered over a period of time or with increased doses. They can change the pattern of rewards, making it harder for a person to feel good without the medication and probably leading to severe cravings which often make it difficult to quit using it.This drug dependency comes about as the brain and body adapt for a while to have drugs in the system. A person might need greater doses of the drug to have the same initial effects. It's called an addiction when people choose to use the drug despite a number of adverse effects.
