Oil And Gas Basins Of The Earth

Basins are produced by forces above the ground (eg: erosion) or below the ground (eg: earthquakes). They can be formed over thousands of years or almost overnight. Oil reserves are found all over the world. However some countries produce more oil than others. The largest oil producing countries are Saudi Arabia, Russia, United States, Iran, and China. In the United States, petroleum is produced close to 31 states and More than 226 oil and gas bearing sedimentary basins have now been discovered on Earth, in which approximately 50,000 crude hydrocarbon fields with proven oil reserves of 152 billion tonnes have been discovered. When oil is withdrawn from the ground the empty space is not actually created but the oil is replaced by water and the matter of fact is that the formation will compact to a slight degree.
