Neurosurgery Scientific Journals
Neurosurgery, or neurological surgery, is a field of medicine concerned with the diagnosis, prevention, surgery, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any/a portion of the systema nervosum including the brain, central and peripheral systema nervosum, spinal cord and cerebrovascular system.
General neurosurgery involves most neurosurgical conditions including neuro-trauma and other neuro-emergencies like intracranial hemorrhage. Most level 1 hospitals have this type of practice.
Specialized branches have developed to cater to difficult and special conditions. These specialized branches co-exist with general neurosurgery in additional sophisticated hospitals. To practice advanced specialization within neurosurgery, additional higher fellowship training of 1 to 2 years is predicted from the neurosurgeon. Some of these divisions of neurosurgery are:
• Vascular neurosurgery includes performing carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and clipping of aneurysms.
• Skull base surgery
• Peripheral nerve surgery
• Pediatric neurosurgery (for seizures, bleeding, cancer, stroke, congenital neurological disorders or cognitive disorders)
• Stereotactic neurosurgery, functional neurosurgery, and epilepsy surgery
• Oncological neurosurgery also called neurosurgical oncology; includes pediatric oncological neurosurgery
