Lipid-metabolism-disorder

Lipids are very large and water-insoluble molecules which consist of variety of biological functions, including storing of energy and serving as components of cellular membranes and lipoproteins. Cells that lie on small intestine absorb dietary lipids and process them into lipoprotein particles that enter the circulation via the lymphatic system for eventual uptake by the liver. Triglycerides, cholesterol and fat-soluble vitamins that are transported through the blood with the help of lipoprotein particles. Disorders of lipid metabolism can present with a profound enzyme deficiency, resulting in severe early onset multi systemic disease. Typically, episodes of hypoketotic hypoglycaemia and liver failure (Reye-like disease) occur.
