INTRA ABDOMINAL ADHESIONS

Adhesions are fibrous bands that form between tissues and organs, often as a results of injury during surgery. they'll be thought of as internal connective tissue that connects tissues not normally connected.
Adhesions form as a natural a part of the body’s healing process after surgery during a similar way that a scar forms. The term "adhesion" is applied when the scar extends from within one tissue across to a different , usually across a virtual space like the greater peritoneal sac . Adhesion formation post-surgery typically occurs when two injured surfaces are on the brink of each other .
Abdominal adhesions (or intra-abdominal adhesions) are most ordinarily caused by abdominal surgical procedures. The adhesions start to make within hours of surgery and should cause internal organs to connect to the surgical site or to other organs within the abdomen . Adhesion-related twisting and pulling of internal organs may end in complications like abdominal pain or ileus .

Small bowel obstruction (SBO) may be a significant consequence of post-surgical adhesions. A SBO could also be caused when an adhesion pulls or kinks the tiny intestine and prevents the flow of content through the alimentary canal . Obstruction may occur 20 years or more after the initial surgery , if a previously benign adhesion allows the tiny bowel to twist spontaneously around itself and obstruct.

According to statistics provided by the National Hospital Discharge Survey approximately 2,000 people die per annum within the USA from obstruction thanks to adhesions. counting on the severity of the obstruction, a partial obstruction may relieve itself with conservative medical intervention.
