HIV Co-infection Open Access Articles

HIV Co-infections occur when the body is affected by more than one disease at a time. People living with HIV are at a higher risk of developing other infections such as tuberculosis, hepatitis B and hepatitis C, which can make disease management difficult. Tuberculosis may be a serious health threat, especially for people living with HIV. People living with HIV are more likely than others to become sick with TB. The alternative for a researcher may be a self-archiving (i.e., to publish during a traditional journal, where only subscribers have immediate access, but to form the article available on their personal and/or institutional internet sites (including so-called repositories or archives), which may be a practice allowed by many scholarly journals.

Open Access rises practical and policy questions for scholars, publishers, funders, and policymakers alike, including what the return on investment is when paying a bit of writing processing fee to publish in an Open Access articles, or whether investments into institutional repositories should be made and whether self-archiving should be made mandatory, as contemplated by some funders.
