Extracellular Proteases Scholarly Peer-review Journal

Extracellular matrix (ECM) is a collection of extracellular molecules secreted by cells that provides structural and biochemical support to the surrounding cells.Proteases became economically important drug targets upon the realization that, besides their primary function in the hydrolysis of peptide bonds, they were extremely important signalling molecules involved in numerous vital processes. A large number of molecules with protease activities are involved in proteolytic processes in the ECM. The first group consists of serine proteases. The second group, the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) is a large family of highly con-served Zn-dependent endopeptidases. Cell cultures were fractionated into cytoplasm, membrane, cell wall, and extracellular milieu protein extracts, which were analysed using immunoblotting and enzyme activity assays.
