DNA CONTAMINATION
DNA sample contamination may be a significant issue in DNA sequencing studies and should end in systematic genotype misclassification and false positive associations.
Contamination may occur as follows:
directly (for example, saliva or dandruff from an examiner ending abreast of an exhibit); then handles a big item, leading to the indirect transfer of biological material from the handle of the drawer to the item) (Crown Copyright, 2016).
Remember Locard’s exchange principle means you'll lose evidence from, and increase , the crime scene but you'll minimize the degree of transfer by simple procedures including use of private protective clothing; restricting access; cleaning scene examination equipment and surfaces before and after use; ensuring that equipment used at crime scenes is thoroughly cleaned between scenes; using only “DNA-free” swabs1 and sterile consumables; and separating exhibits during transport and in storage.
No matter how urgent, don't satisfy your biological needs at the crime scene. Whenever you would like to eat, drink, or attend the toilet ,2 (and albeit you want to smoke) use off-site facilities. Everyone, from the foremost recent rookie to the most senior CSI, must reminded sometimes that straightforward human actions like touching your face or glasses, or sweating in hot conditions can transfer DNA evidence. A culture must be cultivated where all team members feel comfortable alerting one another once they observe such behavior.
