Cell Wall Review Articles

A cell wall is the protective layer that is fairly rigid (it can be flexible and tough), semi-permeable surrounding a cell located outside of the plasma membrane providing additional support and protection. A major function of cell wall is to give the cell strength and structure and also acts as a filtering mechanism. Cell wall are found in plants, fungi and various prokaryotes, animal cells don’t have cell walls hence they don’t have rigid structures. Cellulose is a sugar that is classified as a structural carbohydrate and not used as energy source. When you consume plant material, you can’t digest and break down cellulose for energy because humans lack cellulose enzyme. Animals like cows and other herbivores have special bacteria in their stomach to digest the cellulose polymers. Review article comes in the form of systematic reviews and literature reviews and are a form of secondary literature. Precise reviews determine an objective list of criteria, and find all previously published original research papers that meet the criteria. They then compare the results introduced in these papers. Literature reviews, on the other hand, provide a summary of what the authors believe are the best and generally pertinent earlier publications.
